Library Cards

Kootenai-Shoshone Area Libraries will provide a card to anyone over the age of 18 who can provide I.D. with a current MAILING address or an I.D. & a piece of mail with their current mailing address on it. A contact person is typically a friend, neighbor or relative in the area or someone at work or at school. The contact person must have a different phone number than the applicant. The contact person's phone number is used when repeated attempts to contact a patron concerning the return of overdue library materials have failed. The contact person is not responsible for the cardholder's library materials nor is the contact person informed, under any circumstances, of the specific titles of the books or other materials.

In lieu of a contact name and phone number, a patron's social security number may be used. A patron must show the social security card and the name on the card must agree with the patron's name as provided on the application. A waiver and release form must be filled out and signed.

If a contact name and phone number or social security number is not provided, the library will not issue a library card.

If the patron is under the age of 18, a parent's or guardian's signature is required on the application if the parent or guardian has not accompanied the child to the library to give permission for the issuance of a library card. If materials are checked out on a child's card, all notices concerning the material will be sent to the child. Any overdue charges, lost material costs or collection agency fees are the responsibility of the parent or guardian.

If the patron's address is in an area which does not pay a library tax such as North Shoshone County, a $30.00 per year per family non-resident fee will be charged for a family card and one card will be issued.
